Biography
Maggie Dooney was born in 1988 in County Mayo (Ireland). She currently lives and works between Ireland and Italy.
After her initial studies in social work, she obtained a master's degree in International Relations. In addition to extensive travel, various interests in the fields of culture, sociology and creative therapies motivated Dooney towards artistic creation, in particular, sculpture. Consequently, she participated in numerous sculpture workshops and symposiums. In addition to maintaining a full-time studio in Carrara, Dooney is studying traditional methods of sculpture at the Istituto del Marmo "Tacca" in Carrara.
After an initial approach to wood sculpture, stone naturally became the primary material of choice for Dooney. She is passionate about the hard physical and meditative work that it requires. This element leads her to introspection, acting as a natural filter to her thoughts. The process is continuous and evolving without any fixed intention of form, but rather an effort to translate personal reflections. Dooney follows the flow of her thoughts, manifesting expressions and letting instinct guide the creative process. Large compositions often emerge: a contrast of organic lines between rigid sections and fluid forms.
Inspired by nature and solitude, her work explores various themes, such as everyday life, fertility and the position of the individual between society and nature
Maggie Dooney has exhibited in Ireland, Austria and Italy.
